Individual therapy for adults

There are various reasons for which people seek therapy. Some will have a goal in mind and will want to work on a specific issue, whilst others may wish to engage in an open process of self-exploration and growth, and perhaps don’t have a particular goal in mind.

Some of the issues I offer psychological therapy for include:

• Emotional and/or psychological issues which include anxiety, depression, panic, phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anger management, and self-esteem/self-confidence.

• Major life transitions such as losing a job/taking on a new job; illness, injury, or developing a long-term medical condition; the death of a loved one; relationship break ups; changes in family make-up such as divorce or having a baby; and changes in living conditions.

• Exploratory work through which one works on understanding and making sense of significant experiences in childhood and how they may be impacting current emotions, thoughts, and behaviours.

• Current life stressors including work related stress and burnout, time management, work-life balance, and relationship issues.

Couples Therapy

Every relationship comes with its strengths and challenges, and therapy can provide couples with a safe space to talk about and work through any difficulties that they may be experiencing. Discussing issues in the presence of an objective third party can be just what you need as a couple to develop the tools and techniques to manage difficult situations. Often couples think that therapy ‘should’ be a last resort, when the relationship is in crisis and there seems to be none or very little hope for the relationship to survive. However, the truth is that therapy can be utilised as an integral aspect of a healthy life and as a preventative measure to maintain a healthy relationship. In fact, many couples who come for therapy say that they believe that if they had started attending sooner, they may have avoided years of emotional distress.

I offer couples a safe space to help them facilitate the improvement of various skills that can be beneficial to their relationship. I offer help and support for different issues, some of these include:

• Sex
• Infidelity
• Communication
• Finances
• major life changes such as having children, getting married, relocating to a different country, illness, and loss.

Therapy for children and young people

Growing up is not always a straightforward process. Navigating and managing the different challenges and obstacles children and young people encounter at different developmental stages can be complex and may bring about various issues. When difficulties arise, it can be challenging for both the child and the family members involved in their life.

I am trained and experienced in providing psychological support for children and young people. I endeavour to adapt my therapeutic approach according to the needs of my young clients and often use creative tools such as colours, paints, sand, play doe, and different toys to aid their expression and communication of different thoughts and emotions.

Some of the difficulties I have experience helping children and young people with include:

• Changes in family life/ relationships
• Low self esteem
• Anxiety
• Anger management
• Loss and bereavement
• Low mood and depression
• Difficulties making friends/ feeling isolated
• Bullying
• Post trauma difficulties
• Issues with focusing and attention

Online Therapy

The ever-growing use of smartphone and online technology has brought about a significant growth and increase in the use and provision of online therapy. Online therapy is a broad term that includes therapy via video conferencing, texting, or emailing. Sometimes online therapy is used as an adjunct to face-to-fact therapy; however, in more recent years full therapeutic interventions via online therapy (mostly video conferencing) have become a commonly used mode of therapy. Increasing research studies are suggesting that online therapy can be as effective as face-to-face therapy and a great way to make therapy more convenient and accessible to people all around the world.

Confidentiality and online therapy

Confidentiality is immensely important to me and I believe that it is a crucial aspect that helps develop trust in the therapeutic relationship. As a result, I ensure that the privacy and confidentiality of my clients is respected by using Zoom - https://zoom.us/ when conducting online therapy. Zoom is General Data Protection Regulated (GDPR) compliant. This means that Zoom has robust data privacy and security measures that comply with the set of EU data privacy regulations that became enforced on the 25th of May, 2018.

I offer this service to clients seeking therapy via an online platform. Please feel free to contact me for more information about how this would work and to organise a consultation.
